14 million tons of cargo were processed in the Southern port in 6 months

06 April
2024

The Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine provided data on the volume of transshipment in the ports of Odesa, Pivdenny and Chornomorsk as part of the operation of the Ukrainian Black Sea Corridor in the period from September 2023 to the end of March 2024.

As TTS writes, from the presented information, it turns out that the operators of the South port processed the most cargo - 14.3 million tons. Of them, 5.7 million tons were grain, 8.6 - other cargo (ie, obviously, ore and rolled metal). As part of the action of the Ukrainian corridor, 315 ships left the harbor.

It is worth noting that within the corridor, the first ship entered and left Yuzhnoye on October 1 last year (before that, on September 1, two bulk carriers with 228,000 tons of cast iron and anti-aircraft missiles left the port, but they had been in the port since the beginning of the Russian invasion).

That is, more than 14 million tons of cargo were handled by port stevedores in 6 months. For comparison, during the 12 months of operation of the Grain Initiative, 10.4 million tons were exported through the port. And in 2021, port operators handled 53.5 million tons for the year, i.e., in six months, the conditional pre-war indicator would have amounted to more than 26 million tons.

Over the last 7 months, 11.4 million tons of cargo were transshipped in the port of Chornomorsk, of which 10.7 million tons were grain, and 0.7 million tons were other. 442 ships were loaded and shipped. During the year of the Grain Initiative, for comparison, port operators processed 12.7 million tons.

In third place is the port of Odesa with an indicator of 8.1 million tons of cargo in seven months as part of the work of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Of them - 6.9 million tons - grain, 1.2 million tons - other goods. 383 vessels were sent. During the 12 months of existence of the grain initiative, 9.7 million tons of agricultural products were shipped through the port.

As previously reported, in general, 33.8 million tons of goods were exported through this route during the seven months of operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Of this volume, 23.1 million tons are products of the agricultural industry, the rest are mainly cargoes of enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex of Ukraine. This is more than was exported during the year of the Grain Initiative. In 7 months, 1,140 ships left three Ukrainian ports through the Black Sea corridor.

"We reached almost the pre-war volume of exports from the ports of Great Odesa, and also introduced a much more efficient logistics route without the participation of the aggressor state, continuing to be the guarantor of the food security of the world. This is another joint victory of the State, the United Defense Forces and the entire maritime infrastructure industry ", - noted the Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructuredirector Oleksandr Kubrakov.
