"Ukrzaliznytsia" will allow the accumulation of route trains on station tracks for public use

23 January
2025

The possibility of increasing this "technological time" of accumulation of wagons from 24 to 48 hours is being considered.

JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" is implementing two pilot projects focused on shippers.

As part of the first project, which concerns transportation routing, UZ intends to provide the opportunity to accumulate route trains on station tracks for public use. This service will be free for 24 hours, reports the Central Railway Station, citing Valery Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to the representative of UZ, the main goal of this project is to increase the percentage of freight transportation by rail. Currently, the possibility of increasing such free "technological time" of accumulation of wagons from 24 to 48 hours is being considered, he says.

As part of the second pilot project, UZ plans to provide services with the sedimentation of empty own wagons on the tracks of agreed stations. The initiative is being implemented to stimulate the sedimentation of excess wagon fleet and reduce the cost of the sedimentation of the private fleet.

At the end of 2024, a meeting was held between the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine - Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba and the leadership of Ukrzaliznytsia, during which it was decided to prepare and send to the ministry a draft order on the indexation of freight railway tariffs. This is a 37% increase in tariffs. After this statement, the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" Oleksandr Pertsovskyi reported: UZ expects that indexed tariffs will start operating from February 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, the largest metallurgical companies, including "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih", "Zaporizhstal" and six mining and processing plants, grain producers, as well as business representatives, appealed not to increase tariffs for freight transportation. The country's leading business associations are confident that such a step will cause more harm to the country's economy than benefit "Ukrzaliznytsia".
