"Ukrzaliznytsia" increased cargo turnover by 49% in March
"Ukrzaliznytsia" in March 2023 increased the average daily cargo load compared to the same month last year by 48.5% to 385,000 tons. This was reported by the company's press service.
Compared to February of the current year, the load increased by 4%.
One of our goals is to bring Ukrzaliznytsia to break-even, freight transportation is the main source of income. Therefore, we pay serious attention to this line of work. We are gradually leveling the situation with the load, despite the blockade of sea ports and the destruction of infrastructure. We are also constantly conducting negotiations with cargo owners and foreign partners for the growth of freight transportation and the development of logistics," emphasized Yevgeny Lyashchenko, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Thus, in March 2023, the average daily load of strategically important cargo showed a positive trend. The load of grain increased by almost four times compared to the same month last year — to 94.4thousand tons, hard coal — by 24.3%, to 75.1 thousand tons, oil and oil products — by 51%, to 12.6 thousand tons.
Compared to February 2023, March also has positive dynamics. The average daily load of hard coal in March 2023 compared to February increased by 8%, oil and petroleum products - by 29.4%.
We have a positive dynamic of load growth for key and strategic cargoes. We are also making efforts to increase this growth every month. "Unfortunately, in March, the grain load decreased by 12.6%, this was caused by the slow operation of the sea grain corridor," said Vyacheslav Yeromin, a member of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.
At the end of March, Ukrzaliznytsia sent an anti-rail car on an experimental test flight along the Kyiv-Lisky-Chop route for the final approval of the temporary loading scheme and further development of anti-rail transportation.
In 2022, freight transportation by rail decreased by 52.1% compared to the previous year, to 150.582 million tons.
