Against the background of problems with the export and transit of grain from Ukraine, Turkey announced the introduction of customs duties on the import of wheat, corn and barley.
As reported by Resmi Gazete, from May 1, 2023, the import duty rate will be 130% instead of the current 0%, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the price of Ukrainian grain on the Turkish market and a drop in demand for it.
As noted in the message, this measure is aimed at protecting domestic producers on the eve of the new season.
Before the introduction of the tariff on grain imports, Turkey was the largest buyer of Ukrainian wheat and barley.
