The new Polish government will not yet cancel the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain to the domestic market, introduced on September 15, 2023.

This was reported by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Poland Czeslaw Sekerskyi, reports Ukrinform with reference to Senyrolnicze.pl.

"We want to help Ukraine, but we need regulations regarding quotas and transitional periods. These are negotiations not only between Poland and Ukraine, but also with the participation of the EU... We must support the embargo (on Ukrainian grain - ed.) until other conditions are agreed upon," Sekerskyi said.

In his opinion, a good solution would be to introduce transport licensing, while allowing the use of transit routes for Ukrainian grain outside of Poland.

Sekerskyi recalled that before Christmas he met with the protesters who were blocking the "Medyka-Sheghini" checkpoint and found a compromise with them, which made it possible to suspend the farmers' protest at this checkpoint and unblock the traffic of trucks.

As reported, from December 24, Polish farmers suspended the traffic blockade for trucks near the "Medyka-Sheghini" checkpoint until the beginning.

On November 6, Polish carriers blocked the movement of trucks on the border with Ukraine at the checkpoints "Yagodin - Dorogusk", "Krakivets - Korchova", "Rava-Ruska - Grebenne".

Later, they were joined by Polish farmers at the Sheghini-Medyka checkpoint, putting forward their demands. Farmers insist on receiving subsidies for the purchase of corn, keeping the agricultural tax next year at the level of 2023 and extending loans to ensure liquidity.

In May 2023, the European Commission banned the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania at the insistence of these countries. The ban was extended until September 15, 2023. After that, the European Union did not extend the temporary restrictions on Ukrainian grain.

The Polish government headed by Mateusz Morawiecki independently blocked the import of Ukrainian grain to the Polish market, but its transit through the territory of Poland is carried out.
