The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine together with JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” took part in the 20th International Seminar within the TRACECA project, dedicated to the digitalization of multimodal transport. The visit took place on April 11–12, 2025 in Baku (Azerbaijan) with the participation of representatives of international organizations and the region.

The seminar was organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.

TRACECA is an important international transport corridor connecting Europe with the Caucasus and Central Asia. The project aims to integrate transport systems in the region and is strategically important for wealthy powers.

For Ukraine, this route is of particular importance, and is also an alternative to transportation through the territory of the Russian Federation and Russian transport corridors.

Just before the meeting, the participants discussed the importance of digitalization of trade and transportation, the promotion of electronic transport documents and international standards for cargo, sea and multimodal transportation. Much attention was paid to pilot projects along the Trans-Caspian Corridor, digitalization of the CIM/SMGS bill of lading and data exchange between the ports of the Caspian Sea.

Also discussed were the strengthening of IT systems in various countries, simplification of regulatory procedures and the development of current digital solutions for improved transit and international trade.

Representatives of the Ministry of Development, "Ukrzaliznytsia" and the Association "UKRZOVNISHTRANS" managed to discuss further development of digital transport infrastructure and the possibility of Ukraine's participation in new international pilots projects.

Ukraine’s participation in TRACECA gateways means an expansion of the country’s transport capabilities, increased cooperation with the countries of the Trans-Caspian region and the development of transport routes independent of the Russian Federation.

Based on the results of the seminar, the participants made recommendations for the further development of digital transport corridors and other projects in the region.
