Cooperation will begin in February 2025.
Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd signed an agreement on long-term operational cooperation, which was named Gemini Cooperation.
Cooperation will begin in February 2025. The goal is to create a flexible, interconnected and reliable ocean network.
As part of the agreement, the Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk alliance will jointly operate 290 vessels with a total capacity of 3.4 million TEU, of which 60% will be provided by Maersk and 40% by Hapag-Lloyd.
In order to join the Gemini Cooperation alliance, Hapag-Lloyd will leave THE Alliance at the end of January 2025, which also includes Ocean Network Express (ONE), HMM and Yang Ming. The 2M alliance, between Maersk and MSC, will also end in January 2025.
"During 2024, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will carefully plan the transition from their existing alliances to the new operational cooperation. Customer service will continue in accordance with existing agreements. More detailed information about Gemini Cooperation, including the new schedule, will be announced later," Maersk said.
It is noted that within the framework of the agreement, both companies have set themselves an ambitious goal from the beginning of joint work to ensure the reliability of the schedule by more than 90%.
"In addition to improving the quality of service, customers will also benefit from reduced transit times along many major port-to-port corridors and access to some of the key interconnected hubs," Maersk emphasized.
