Road freight transport is facing significant challenges in the context of the transition to more sustainable models, the digitalization of logistics processes and the growing pressure to ensure better working conditions. Drivers, a key player in the industry, have for years railed against an aging workforce, harsh working hours and the need to equalize their rights with those of other sectors.
In 2024, mobilization and negotiations by unions such as the CCOO brought fundamental issues to the table, such as the need to lower the retirement age due to the physical and psychological risks associated with road transport. The nationwide strike, which was called off late last year, marked a milestone in the dialogue between workers and employers, highlighting the importance of reaching mutually beneficial agreements.
The introduction of discount rates is seen as a historic demand of the sector, and its approval is considered key to improving the quality of life of workers, renewing the workforce and ensuring competitiveness in an increasingly complex market.
Thanks to this meeting, all parties involved have the opportunity to take a decisive step towards recognizing the work of transport professionals and towards a fairer and more sustainable labor system. On this important day for the future of the sector, it is expected to be guided by responsibility and commitment.
