The creation of the organization is designed to increase the status of Hong Kong as an international maritime hub.
The Chamber of Shipping was founded in Hong Kong. One of the founders was the former head of the Hong Kong Administration, Liang Zhenyin.
The new institution was headed by Hin Chao, chairman of the board of directors of the shipping company Wah Kwong Maritime Transport.
The establishment of the Chamber of Shipping is designed to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international maritime hub.
If in 2019 Hong Kong took 4th place in the ranking of the world's largest maritime hubs according to DNV and Menon Economics, then this year the port city was only in 12th place.
