About 100 tractors were deployed on strategic roads leading to Hamburg's port area, disrupting operations at Europe's largest container transshipment hub.
According to the police, about 1,500 tractors obstructed traffic in Hamburg.
The ports on Germany's northern coast of Wilhelmshaven and Bremerhaven were also blocked by protesters. Bremerhaven police said they are negotiating with farmers to secure access to the port.
