Freight transportation by rail from China to Europe increased by 30%

19 July
2023

In the first half of the current year, rail cargo transportation from China to Europe increased by 30%, reaching 936,000 TEU. Logist.Today learned about this from a message published on the trasportoeuropa.it portal.

According to data released by the China State Railway Group, the increase was primarily on the route between Xi'an and the German city of Duisburg, where the frequency was doubled to two trains a week. According to analysts, traffic increased due to greater load balancing achieved in the west-east direction, as well as a 16% increase in the number of trains to 8,641 units.

Almost half of the trains passed through the Khorgos railway terminal, located on the border between China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Kazakhstan, where the system has been operating since 2016 and is now crossed by 77 connections.

The China State Railway Group adds that to date, more than 73,000 rail journeys have been made between China and Europe, during which 6.9 million TEUs were transported to 216 cities in 25 European countries.
