Danube ports increased cargo flow 3 times during the period of full-scale invasion, - MIU

2024

At the moment, half of the volumes of 2023 pass through the Danube ports, but this is 3 times more cargo flow than before the war.

The Danube ports increased the cargo flow by 3-4 times during the period of the full-scale invasion, said Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach.

According to the official, at the moment the volumes passing through the Danube ports are half smaller than last year's figures. But it is still 3-4 times more cargoflow than was the case before a full-scale invasion.

"If we speak realistically, there will probably be no return to the record figures that were in 2023. It is clear that deep-sea seaports have more advantages," he clarified.

Derkach also expressed hope that it will be possible to maintain "plus or minus the current indicators of exports along the Danube".

"Firstly, we need to keep this corridor in working order in case the enemy hits the ports of Greater Odessa again. That is, it is about logistical security. Secondly, we still have the categories of goods that we traditionally transport through these ports, for example oil products. That's why the Danube will work, it's just that investments in it will return a little longer," the deputy minister noted.
