JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" started the construction of a railway with a European track width of 1435 mm in the Chop-Uzhgorod direction. On April 11, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the chairman of the board of JSC UZ Yevhen Lyashchenko, the first link of the rail-spanning grid of the new track was laid.
As TTS writes with reference to the statement of "Ukrzaliznytsia", the project involves the construction of 22 km of European standard railway track. It will also include the reconstruction of artificial structures, objects and networks of engineering support, equipping the track with two-way semi-automatic blocking and microprocessor dispatching centralization devices.
"The project will be implemented with 50% grant co-financing from the EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). "Ukrzaliznytsia" received the opportunity to implement this project as a result of successful participation in the competitive selection of CEF projects in 2022. The total amount of the project is UAH 1.3 billion. Deadline the project is 14 months", - said the head of "Ukrzaliznytsia" Yevhen Lyashchenko.
As noted in JSC UZ, the electrification of the Chop-Uzhgorod Eurotrack, which will be laid, is planned at the next stage.
It is also planned to carry out a technical and economic substantiation of a possible extension of the Eurotrack from Uzhgorod to Lviv, which will be an important step for joining Lviv to two European TEN-T Transport Corridors - the Rhine-Danube and the Mediterranean.
