In total, in July 2024, UZ transported 13.6 million tons of cargo, which is 12% more than the same figure last year.
According to the results of work in July, "Ukrzaliznytsia" will receive a negative financial result for the first time since the beginning of the year, despite the improvement of operational efficiency compared to last year.
"The 40% increase in energy costs was offset by savings in other operating costs, but the increase in exchange rates and the deterioration of the structure of cargo transportation led to a negative financial result," the report said.
The company noted that the volume of unprofitable cargo transportation has increased (revenues from the transportation of these cargoes do not cover the costs of their organization): in July 2024, 3.6 million tons of iron and manganese ore were transported, which is 65% more than in July 2023. However, in July, compared to last month, the volume of grain transportation - one of the main and highly profitable cargoes - decreased by 19%.
In total, 13.6 million tons of cargo were transported in July 2024, which is 12% more than the same figure last year: in domestic traffic - 6.4 million tons (-22% by July 2023); for export - 6.4 million tons (+93% by July 2023); for import - 746 thousand tons (+39% by July 2023).
Also, for 7 months of this year, "Ukrzaliznytsia" reduced fixed expenses, without taking into account the increase in electricity prices, as well as labor costs, the level of which is lower than the average for Ukraine.
"Ukrzaliznytsia" advocates convergence of the cost of transportation of goods of different tariff classes. There is no economic justification for the existence of a large difference in the cost of transportation of cargo of different tariff classes, because the infrastructure component (costs for infrastructure maintenance) is the same for all cargoes," concluded JSC UZ.
