1. This event is organized in cooperation between the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission for the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Transport Corridor (IGC TRACECA PS) and development partners.
2. The High-Level International Conference on “Digital Transformation of Information Exchange in Supply Chains Using United Nations Standards”, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 31 October 2022, contributed to the wider adoption of United Nations (UN/CEFACT) standards on digital multimodal supply. The conference recommended "to intensify training and capacity building of experts in the SPECU States to understand and apply UN/CEFACT standards and reference data models in the field of digitization of data and document exchange in the region; to develop and implement pilot implementation projects, including digital twin projects for transactions. The SPECU, meeting in Geneva on 17 April 2023, requested in their Joint Statement the UNECE to develop a Roadmap for the digitalization of multimodal data and document exchange on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor using United Nations standards for the participating States for implementation. The Capacity Building Workshop in Baku on 22-23 May 2023 launched a series of such capacity building activities with the participation of governments and business communities. multimodal transport Participants will also discuss specific pilot projects in cooperation with TRACECA and other partners.
3. The workshop will be the final event of the UNDA14 2225N project. It will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 11-12 December 2025 and will focus on two topics:
a. Taking stock of the results (lessons learned) and next steps from the pilotprojects using UN/CEFACT standards in the context of cargo data exchange in multimodal digital corridors in accordance with the Roadmap for the Digitalization of the Trans-Caspian Region using UN/CEFACT standards:
• Digitalization of the CIM/SMGS railway consignment note by the Trans-Caspian Corridor in cooperation with TRACECA,
• Data exchange between ports of the Caspian Sea,
• Digitalization of the SMGS railway consignment note,
• Other modes of transport in the supply chain, etc.
b. methodology for digitalization of data exchange across the Caspian Sea within the corridor using UN/CEFACT standards.
4. The seminar will be attended by experts with technical skills from relevant national agencies involved in trade regulation, transport and transit procedures, as well as representatives of the business community (traders, carriers, freight forwarders, IT developers, etc.). This workshop will focus on capacity building to enhance the skills of target countries in implementing innovative practices, including technology transfer for electronic data exchange and document equivalents in accordance with UN/CEFACT standards and supporting tools.
5. The discussion of the contribution of UN standards and the participation of international organizations and the private sector will help formulate conclusions and recommendations for next steps to support relevant initiatives in the region.
