UKRAINE, ROMANIA AND EU STRENGTHEN COOPERATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DANUBE PORTS

A trilateral meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Romania and the European Commission was held in Galati within the framework of the Solidarity Paths initiative. The event, organized in a hybrid format, was aimed at strengthening cooperation in the Danube region and coordinating efforts to develop transport infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the State Enterprise "Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine" Oleksandr Semirga and Deputy Head Vyacheslav Kharkavenko, Director General of the Lower Danube Administration Angela Stela Ivan, representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Romania, the Danube Commission, as well as the team of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission led by Alan Baron. Representatives of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania joined the online discussion.

The participants agreed on improving the PRIMUS information platform to optimize data exchangeand between the port administrations of Ukraine and Romania, as well as on deepening cooperation in the field of shipping safety and developing the logistics potential of the region. In addition, the parties confirmed their intentions regarding the need to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding, which will lay the foundation for strengthening regional partnership.

“Danube ports have become the key logistics gateways of Ukraine to Europe. Therefore, it is important to develop and increase systematic, transparent and technological cooperation with Romanian and European partners now,” said Oleksandr Semirga, Head of the State Enterprise “USPA”.

The meeting in Galati confirmed the common determination of the parties to further strengthen logistics ties and integrate the transport networks of Ukraine and the EU, which is of particular importance in the context of martial law and for the future economic recovery of the region. These efforts are becoming even more relevant in view of Ukraine’s future accession to the European Union.
