CHINA RESPONDS TO TRUMP WITH ITS HIGH TARIFFS

06 March
2025

After the US on Tuesday imposed new high tariffs on imports from countries that are its main trading partners, China decided to respond in the most painful way for the American president.

The fact is that the core of Donald Trump's electorate is made up of voters from among farmers. Now China, which is the main consumer of American agricultural products, has announced the introduction of additional tariffs on imports of chicken, beef and soybeans from the US. The rates range from 10-15%.

China "will not succumb" to intimidation from the US, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Recall that the US has begun to implement previously promised additional customs tariffs of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and additional duties of 10% on Chinese goods.

China has promised to fight the US "to the bitter end", announcing tariffs of up to 15% on a number of American products. At the same time, Beijing has imposed export and investment restrictions on 25 American companies, citing national security considerations. Ten of these 25 American companies have come under attack from China for selling weapons to Taiwan, which the PRC considers its territory.

At the same time, Canada has introduced a 25% tariff on American goods, which will cost several billion dollars. Mexico has also promised to give a similar response.
