To support the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in preparing for the bilateral screenings of chapters 14 and 21 of the EU Acquis on transport policy and trans-European transport networks (TEN-T), the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, in cooperation with the authorities of North Macedonia, organized a two-day workshop in Skopje on 11-12 February 2025.
The event brought together civil servants and professionals from Moldova and Ukraine to exchange views and learn from the experiences of their counterparts from North Macedonia who have undergone the bilateral screening process for two chapters of the EU Acquis.
The next bilateral screening meetings between the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the European Commission are scheduled for June 2025.
Experts from the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry for European Affairs of North Macedonia shared their insights and conclusions from the screening process across all transport modes and sectors, sparking meaningful discussions with their counterparts from Moldova and Ukraine.
In addition to knowledge sharing, the seminar was an opportunity to strengthen professional ties and build long-term relationships between transport experts from the region.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Matej Zakonšek emphasized that such events embody the core mission of the Transport Community – a platform for knowledge exchange where its members cooperate as partners. “By sharing experiences and best practices, we are further uniting and making our transport networks stronger, more integrated and safer,” he noted.
Welcoming the participants of the seminar, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of North Macedonia, Mr. Stefan Volkanovski, noted that this event highlights the importance of sharing knowledge, first-hand experience, ideas and conclusions drawn during bilateral demonstrations. He also highlighted the good relations between North Macedonia, Moldova and Ukraine and stressed the readiness of him and his colleagues to continue sharing experiences with Moldova and Ukraine on their path to full EU membership.
Ms. Mona Björklund, Director for Policy and Coordination at the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission, welcomed the initiative and support of North Macedonia. She expressed her hope that by sharing experiences, Moldova and Ukraine can build on this momentum and further accelerate their EU integration efforts.
The seminar was organized within the framework of the project “Participation of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the Transport Community”, funded by the European Union.
