Despite the unblocking of the work of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" continues to record a significant decrease in the indicators of grain unloading in the ports of Greater Odessa, said Valery Tkachev, deputy director of the company's commercial work department.

"We are recording a significant decrease in the rate of daily unloading of grain wagons in the ports of Greater Odessa to 92 wagons per day. Previously, the index fluctuated between 700 and 900 wagons. The average daily unloading index for May in general is 243 grain wagons," he noted.

According to Tkachev, as of May 22, 962 wagons with grain cargoes were moving in the direction of the ports of Great Odesa. The waiting time is 10.5 days.

The specialist also added that the situation in the port of Izmail, which is an alternative for exporting grain cargoes from Ukraine, remains difficult due to the critical accumulation of wagons. As of May 17, 2,428 wagons with grain loads were moving towards the port. The total unloading reaches 94 wagons with grain.

"There is a slight decrease in daily unloading due to changes of vessels at the berth. The average daily unloading indicator in May is 87 wagons with grain. For the specified unloading volumes, the waiting time is 25.8 days," the message says.

Among the reasons for the accumulation of wagons in the port of Izmail, Tkachev named the mass reorientation of the flow of wagons with grain for transportation in the direction of Izmail due to the blocking of the grain corridor and restrictions on the western junctions.

The low technical support of operators (lack of covered warehouses, powerful unloading equipment and equipment) is also noted, despite their large number in the port. In addition, there is a high dependence of the operation of the port on weather conditions.
